ADOPTION: How much does it cost? The fee for adopting cats or dogs from the Nelson County Animal Shelter is only $80.00. This includes spay/neuter, first de-worming, first set of shots including first rabies shot. WHAT TO CONSIDER: Adoptions are
a long-term commitment. Are you prepared to take care of an animal for
its lifetime? It's also important to consider the needs/characteristics
of family members and other pets when choosing a new pet. Do you want a
lively, fun-filled dog to play with the kids and go on family outings?
Or is your preference for a companion to curl up on the couch and
relax? There are also practical considerations, like long haired vs.
short haired animals. The amount of vacuming is radically different
between the two. Another consideration that can't be overlooked is that
of time. How much time do you have to spend with your new pet? How long
will it be left alone while you are at work, or engage in other
activities? Pets who don't get the proper time from their owners can
develope behavioral problems. Click here for more information about Dogs Available for Adoption Click here for more information about Cats Available for Adoption |
