There was no public comment.
Chairperson Kelly called the meeting to order.
Motion: To approve the March 6, 2008 meeting minutes. Armstrong-Berry (4-0)
Steve Crandall reported that he and Stu Armstrong met with the director of the JAUNT program regarding the transportation system to link the Resort, Stoney Creek, Nelson County and even Charlottesville. In order to meet the deadlines for federal programs and funding sources (September 2008), the following was proposed:
Motion: To authorize Steve Crandall to spend up to $5,000 to work with the Planning District Commission and JAUNT to complete an analysis and feasibility study for the transportation project. Armstrong-Berry (4-0)
The Business Appreciation Event planning is on schedule.
The amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding for the Colleen Business Park is being reviewed by all parties.
Erwin Berry and Maureen Corum met with Valerie Palamountain, Dean of Workforce Services at Piedmont Virginia Community College, to discuss programs and services that PVCC might offer Nelson County businesses. Erwin was urged to continue the dialogue and report to the EDA.
The 2008 Goals for the EDA were reviewed.
The planning for the May 20, 2008 Entrepreneur Express is on schedule.
Steve Carter, Greg Kelly and Maureen Corum met with staff from the Weldon Cooper Center to discuss a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the County. We are awaiting a proposal from the Weldon Cooper Center.
Action on funding the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center was deferred. The board of supervisors will fund one-half of the program cost for the Thomas Jefferson Partnership for Economic Development.
