Nellysford Community Planning Project

The Nellysford community planning process began with a well-attended workshop at the Rockfish Elementary School on September 26, with over 170 people attending. The workshop was an opportunity for citizens and business owners to articulate their vision for the greater Nellysford area.

The proposed project area stretches from the intersections of Route 151 and route 613 to the intersection of Route 151 and Route 664, with focus on those gateway entrances as well as the Spruce Creek area and the town center of Nellysford.

This PowerPoint and handout was presented to approximately 90 Nelson County residents and business owners on November 22, 2005 at the Rockfish River Elementary School. This Nellysford Area Workshop #2 was an opportunity for participants to review the results of the first workshop and to create a vision for the future of the Nellysford community. This PowerPoint provided participants with examples of development in similar communities and a draft plan to stimulate conversation. The handout illustrates ideas of development for the town and a summary of the Nellysford Workshop #1 held in September.

The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is managing the study, which will encompass issues such as transportation, land use, economic development, capacity and safety - all with an emphasis on small town development.  The plan will include long-term vision information, long-term projects, short-term projects and grant opportunities for such demonstration projects.

Another public meeting was held Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 6:00 pm at the Rockfish River Elementary School at 200 Chapel Hollow Road, Afton.
