2008 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Dates

Household Hazardous Waste events (HHW) are free to Nelson residents, but you must obtain a voucher from the Nelson County Solid Waste & Recycling office in order to participate.  The County is charged $42.50 for each vehicle.  Call 434-263-7098 to obtain a voucher, to request a list of acceptable and non-acceptable items, and to obtain driving directions and hours of operation for the events.  There are two dates left this year:

Saturday, September 20 – Ivy (Albemarle)
Saturday, October 11 – Lynchburg

In addition to the HHW events, there will be a Commercial Hazardous Waste event at Ivy on Friday, September 19.  This is a fee-based collection, and businesses wishing to participate must pre-register by phoning 1-800-494-2273.

Without adequate disposal of waste, there is no such thing as clean air or clean water.  This is especially true when it comes to the disposal of items considered to be hazardous waste.  Please don’t poison our planet – it’s the only home we have!
