Where the raptors soar! A Day at the Hawk Watch. 10AM to 3PM. Each fall over 25,000 raptors migrate over Rockfish Gap, and we count them all! Come join us as we witness this great migration and enjoy a fun day of family events including:
Wildlife Center of Virginia live raptor shows at 11AM & 1PM.
Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary with their Black Vulture.
Meet our counters and learn what a hawk watch is all about.
Learn how to identify raptors.
View mounted raptor specimens up close.
Monarchs: From egg to butterfly live exhibit.
Exhibits by local bird Clubs.
Rivanna Master Naturalists – bird wing spans and nests.
Kestrel Nest Box Project (Virginia Society of Ornithology).
Educational displays and presentations.
Complementary refreshments will be provided. Parking is available in the Inn at Afton parking lot. Bring a lawn chair, hat, sunscreen and binoculars. Pets are discouraged because of live raptors on site. 434-249-2927.
